  • Check-in to the historic Hotel Du Pont, a luxurious hotel with impeccable service and plush, old world European grandeur.
  • Enjoy a Welcome Reception followed by a historic hotel tour.
  • Enjoy a Welcome Dinner at a local Historic Tavern.
  • Retire to your rooms at your leisure.

Day Two:
  • A full, hot breakfast is served this morning.
  • Visit Nemours, a 300-acre country estate of Alfred I. DuPont, the late industrialist and philanthropist, for some 19th-century yuletide cheer.  An outstanding example of a French chateau in the style of Louis XVI, you will wander through the former Du Pont estate decked out for the holidays with Christmas trees, hand-painted ornaments, and antique decorations.  Also, you will hear how Jesse and Alfred Du Pont celebrated the holidays, and glimpse historical artifacts, some of which have never before been displayed.  Many of the rooms featured in the tour will be decorated as they would have been when Du Pont resided there in the early 1900s, while others will retain their traditional period decorations.  Christmas trees, garlands, sprays, paper filigree “quilling,” hand-painted ornaments, miniature churches, original holiday cards, a manger scene, and original toys from the Du Pont estate all add to the old-fashioned holiday atmosphere. Yuletide at Nemours Mansion will delight you with the grand traditions of the past and visions of holidays of old.
  • Visit Holidays at Hagley!  The 1803 Du Pont family ancestral home, Eleutherian Mills, will feature holiday decorations and interpretation on the French traditions of  exchanging gifts on New Year’s Day and the celebration of Twelfth Night. The residence will glow with elaborate decorations that feature dining room displays, heavily decorated Christmas trees, and family-owned objects not displayed at any other time of the year. Dried flowers, greenery, fruits, and other natural materials create a beautiful holiday ambiance accentuated by soft lights and Christmas music.  To complement the holiday decorations, period rooms will show how adults and children occupied their time during winter months. Indoor activities included entertaining, sewing, reading, listening to music, drawing pictures, and playing board games. Toys and games to engage children during winter included dolls, games, blocks, puzzles, special child-size furniture, and dishes and a tea party set with dishes and silverware.
  • Enjoy dinner at Brandywine Prime.
  • Celebrate the Christmas Season at Longwood Gardens.  This is the former country estate of Pierre S. du Pont.  Enjoy 20 indoor conservatories and 1,050 acres of outdoor gardens and woodlands on the magnificent grounds that present a never-ending cavalcade of luxurious bloom every day of the year. Longwood is sure to delight anyone who loves exquisite flowers, majestic trees, and opulent architecture. Revel in the wonder of A Longwood Christmas. A million twinkling lights, thousands of poinsettias, and magnificently decorated trees herald the arrival of A Longwood Christmas. Listen as carolers share the sounds of the season and illuminated fountains dance to music.
Day Three:
  • A full, hot breakfast is served this morning.
  • Take a ride on the Santa Claus Express, a.k.a. The Wilmington and Western Railroad.  Enjoy holiday cheer and a visit from Saint Nick and a jolly old elf!
  • Last, but certainly not least, enjoy an iconic High Tea Luncheon at the Hotel Du Pont.
