Sample Itinerary: Day 1 - Winterthur Museum, Mansion, & Garden
- Visit the Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library. Delight in the museum’s magnificent collection of American decorative arts as you tour the house and exhibition galleries. Enjoy the glorious 60-acre garden and surrounding woodlands and meadows, and play in Enchanted Woods, the award-winning children’s garden. Dine in Winterthur's cafés and shop the many options in the Museum Stores.
- Take the Garden Tram to the Mansion.
- Tour Winterthur Mansion and Garden. Explore treasure of Christmas past with sparkling holiday display depicting holiday traditions from the 1800s to the early 20th century.
- Enjoy lunch on own at Winterthur.
- Depart and check-in to your hotel for the evening.
- Enjoy dinner included at a local Tavern serving American comfort food in a Colonial dining room of an 1800s home located in the heart of historic Centreville, Delaware.

- Depart via motor coach and enjoy the Holidays at Nemours Estate. Beautiful throughout the year, Nemours Estate is breathtaking during the holiday season. The 77-room mansion, modeled after Marie Antoinette’s Le Petit Trianon, is dressed to the nines. Nemours is aglow with elaborate table settings, spectacular floral displays, and an array of beautiful Christmas trees, garlands, and wreaths. Many of the family’s original ornaments and decorations are evident including a German crèche complete with soft ceramic, unglazed, and hand-colored figures dating to the late 19th century.
- Christmas trees, garlands, sprays, paper filigree “quilling,” hand-painted ornaments, miniature churches, original holiday cards, a manger scene, and original toys from the Du Pont estate all add to the old-fashioned holiday atmosphere. Yuletide at Nemours Mansion will delight you with the grand traditions of the past and visions of holidays of old.
- Enjoy lunch included while visiting the Hagley Museum. Located on 235 acres along the banks of the Brandywine in Wilmington, Delaware, Hagley is the site of the gunpowder works founded by E.I. duPont in 1802. This example of early American industry includes restored mills, a workers' community, and the ancestral home and gardens of the du Pont family.
- Hagley's Library furthers the study of business and technology in America. The collections include individuals' papers and companies' records ranging from eighteenth-century merchants to modern telecommunications and illustrate the impact of the business system on society.
- Enjoy Hagley Blast! The surprising effect of a burning dish gunpowder demonstration.
- This evening, enjoy a Christmas dinner included at a charming, upscale spot for traditional American cuisine such as steaks, crab cakes, & scallops.
- Depart via motor coach and enjoy A Longwood Christmas! From towering trees that touch the sky to acres of twinkling light, A Longwood Christmas makes your holiday oh so merry and bright. Inside, stroll among beautifully adorned trees and plant palettes of delicate winter whites to rich reds and the greenest of evergreens as you wrap yourself in nostalgic Christmas morning.

- Arrive at Brandywine River Museum of Art. See the Brandywine Railroad O-gauge model train display with trains running on nearly 2,000 feet of track and more than 1,000 pieces, including locomotives, passenger and freight trains, and trolleys passing through small towns, a farm, factories, and even a carnival. View the thousands of handcrafted and whimsical Critter Ornaments decorating the towering trees in the Museum’s three-story atrium and available for sale in the Museum Shop.
