Sample Itinerary ~ Day 1
- Arrive in iconic Washington, DC, this afternoon and enjoy free time along the National Mall to visit the Smithsonian Museum of your choice.
- This evening, partake in a Welcome Dinner in Old Town Alexandria, a beautifully-preserved historic district on the Potomac River and the heart of the city George Washington called home. Today, Old Town’s cobblestone streets and red brick sidewalks hum with an energy that attracts everyone from presidents to pet lovers, to some of the best Old Town Alexandria restaurants, arts, events, shopping, and historic attractions.
- Check-in to your local MARS-Partner hotel, your home-away-from-home for the next two nights.
- Begin with breakfast at the hotel this morning before departing to meet your licensed DC Tour Guide.
- Arrive with your group at Capitol Hill and ascend the famous “Hill” where history can be felt. Explore the Capitol Visitor Center with a Capitol Guide and witness firsthand the most recognizable symbol of democracy in the world.
- Afterwards, you’ll discover something new at the Library of Congress. Established as an act of Congress is 1800, The Library of Congress is the largest national library in the world with more than 100 million items in three buildings. The original Library of Congress Building (now called the Thomas Jefferson Building) is perhaps Washington’s most richly ornamented building. DID YOU KNOW? The library has more than 650 miles of bookshelves, and more than 138 million objects in 470 different languages.
- Dine at your own expense at the Capitol Visitor Center Café, a vast dining hall offering virtually any cuisine to satisfy any craving!
- Depart with your Guide on a Monuments and Memorials Tour to include the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jefferson, Vietnam Veterans, and the Korean War Veterans Memorials. Stop for a White House photo op and see the new World War I Memorial.
- Your Guide will join you for a delightful Farewell Dinner at a waterfront restaurant overlooking the Potomac River.
- Tonight, embark on an Illuminated Monument Tour where you’ll get to see DC’s iconic memorials softened by the glow of warm lights. Walk through the John F. Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts. Explore the new JFK Exhibit and stroll the terrace in the cool night air. The District is impressive during the day - stunning at night!
- Return to your hotel for the evening.
- Enjoy breakfast at the hotel this morning prior to checking out.
- Embark on a Guided Tour of charming Old Town Alexandria. Stroll along the historic cobblestone streets while hearing the tales of the old port town and its famous inhabitants and visitors from your costumed Guide. You’ll have time afterwards to shop and explore on your own - be sure to visit the Torpedo Factory!
- This afternoon, board your Water Taxi in Old Town and travel along the Potomac River to the National Harbor where you’ll have additional time to explore the vibrant mini-city, enjoy lunch on your own, shop the specialty stores, and experience a ride on the Capital Wheel with breathtaking views of the Nation’s City.
